Can anyone preferably a History/AP History teacher tell me where I might be able to find either a convenient small textbook or novel like book which I could read to understand the following histories: World Hist, U.S. Hist, and European Hist.I just feel ignorant about history in general. Any methods you use to memorize important dates or chunk the information so that I can understand the Great Schism,Cold War and Ottoman Empire?

I don't have any textbook suggestions for you, but I just wanted to mention this... Names and dates are just part of the information that you should be concerned with. You'll do much better to concern yourself with the causes, outcomes, and significance of the events you plan to study. You can always look up a name or date (you don't need an education for that), but it takes more knowledge to understand why an event is important in history. Always ask yourself why an event you are studying is significant.

The majority of college professors will be more concerned with the significance of events than just names and dates. A few are sticklers for names and dates, but most care about the important information. You'll hear the word "significance" thrown around alot in college history courses...

For example, knowing that Hitler occupied Czechoslovakia on March 15, 1939 is one thing, but knowing that this event is significant because Hitler put himself in a position risking war with Britain and France if he attacked another small nation after this (which he did - Poland on September 1, 1939), a situation which would lead to the outbreak of World War 2, is another.

first create a timeline. it helps for cause and effect too. Separate it into Politcal, Economical, Religious, Social, Intelecutal, and Arts.

create a timeline of general history events. On a separate sheet of paper, be more in detail on the events, people, art, etc.

google the McKay website for APEuro or European history
