I am not entirely up to speed on what is already being done so if I am way off base, let me know.

Take all the government money that is going in to programs to reduce poverty, and use it to match what companies are donating. Also offer tax breaks and other incentives that increase with the amount organizations donate. This would cause more organizations to give to American charities instead of the foreign ones, and it would make more organizations want to give. I feel bad for kids in other countries but we should not ignore the children in our own country because it is cheaper to help the children in poor countries.

Start an independent charity whose sole purpose is to eliminate poverty in the United States, and offer further incentives for companies to donate to it. It would work together with existing charities in the U.S. and, I think, the poverty problem could be significantly reduced in our country with a solid partnership instead of a bunch of loose organizations.

Were talking children, who cannot control there parents actions and are innocent.

Unfortunately Clarence, the money would not go to the children in most cases. It will go to whatever habit leeched them their money in the first place.

Your answer lies in part of your statement about parents. With all of the programs available thru the government in general, school systems in particular and private concerns is seems as though the only kids that go hungry are those that are either neglected by bad parents or those whose parents aren't mentally capable of caring for them. Identify those children in those 2 groups and remove them to a safer living situation and I think the problem is solved.

Americorp is a great organization like Peace Corp but for U.S. poverty and poor.

In the states so many people scam for donations and never really give the money or the donations to the people they are intended for. Scammers bank on the kind heartedness of most Americans and kind hearted Americans are getting more and more skeptical about their giving.

The only way I give it to people in my own community that I already know. I live in a remote area and know quite a few hard working and honest people who have children they are having trouble buying clothes and things for. I always know how to donate and work in soup kitchens in the area.

I'm glad people are still interested in America's poverty problem instead of thinking that the problem of poverty exists everywhere but in America.

Good Question.

That's a very good question, its important to stop and think about all the little people, they need to be protected above all, i only wish the government would stop their dreams of controlling the world long enough to remember we should take care of our own first, that's why we pay tax's so that some good will can be passed around to our countrymen and the needy,it makes allot more since that spending billions on wars we don't need, really no one on the planet wants war, only the controllers if others don't bend to their will, if i could i would like to help kids too.

Stop the BS in Congress. Elect people to office would care about America and not the worlds problems. We have more problems here in the US that need the same focus that we put on the stupid foreigners. Stop The North American Union from happening it will destroy the country

I thought the Great Society and the War on Poverty did away with poverty.

Guess I was wrong.

Where did all that money go? It was far more that squirelly-man suggested.

I think charity begins here at home, and I agree with that part. I think we need to look at ways of getting the poor (on welfare) to limit the size of their families, through sterilization.

I am unopposed to short-term welfare benefits, largely because I am pro-life and pro-child.

I think the problem of poverty would improve if people took the initiative to pursue more work and learn to budget their money and control their spending habits.

Find jobs for the parents so that they can feed their children on their own. America needs jobs.
