There are a lot of books on the subject.

What kind of magick are you interested in?

I teach Hawai'ian mysticism and their form of magick on my website.

There is Wicca. Ican recommend some books by Scott Cunningham, Raymond Buckland, Marian Green, etc.

There is Ceremonial magick. Donald Kraig, and several others authors wrote books on the subject.

A quick google reveals this rather long wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magick
which gives a nice introduction. Though I would caution that while Crowley is well-respected he is also prone to confusing, if not misleading, those new to the study. So rather than Thelema which the wikipedia article leans towards, you might consider something like BOTA:
http://www.bota.org/
whose founder Paul Case has written a number of interesting books that are still in print.

As another poster noted, there are also very different approaches like Wicca, shamanism and assorted eastern techniques which I don't know the proper names for.

Whichever approach you choose, be sure to bring along a lot of patience. This path is not a quick one. And once your preliminary exploration uncovers a tradition which appeals, you will find a real human teacher to be an invaluable addition to the study of books and individual meditation. Good luck!

Lots of books are at the book store to learn magick. Books range from simple to complex. If you practice visualization of pictures with your eyes closed you will have better success. My first book "Miracle of New Avatar Power" seemed to really work. Death of a relative left me $6,000 for college. Seek out the books that interest you. You have to discover your own path.

this relies upon on what you recommend by skill of real magick. in case you recommend some basic earth and nature magick then, like anybody stated, analyze. It takes devotion and wits. skill is on no account won genuinely. in case you recommend real magick, the effectual stuff of legend then your in all hazard no longer likely to income it. for the reason that maximum genuinely books of magic have been lost, destroyed by skill of the crusades and the burning of e book seen to be heretical by skill of the church, there are few left as we talk. persons that are left are the two hidden or secure. you may genuinely choose somebody to instruct you and those mages/sorcerers/magicians or in spite of you may call them are few and plenty between it can be a intense undertaking to locate one. they could could desire to conceal themselves properly after all. Supposing you probably did locate one it fairly isn't any longer likely you would be straight away properly-known. you may genuinely could desire to instruct your self in some way, and instruct your devotion besides. a job that could genuinely be confusing to assert the least. the different option is calling a variety of hidden books. in case you probably did locate one hazard is the magic interior could require you to already be responsive to a deal of magic to apply it.

My advice is "when you play the fire you get burned" be careful of the steps you take. Just about everything you will find is fiction. There will be two sides (people for and against) with whatever you choose so just do what feels right for you.
