Actually, I am doing a report on Geisha, a Life by Mineko Iwasaki. This is the geisha Author Golden (author of Memoirs of a Geisha) had interviewed for the novel. She had decided to write her autobiography, because of Golden's 'facts' about geisha that were not true, making Westerners believe that geisha are nothing but prostitutes. He also pointed her out in the acknowledgments when he had agreed to keep Mineko's interview a secret. A must read! Hope this helps!

Liza Dalby also wrote an interesting book on life as a geisha; it's worth comparing both if you choose Arthur Golden's book.
