Are you serious?

I am a diehard 49er fan and this question is ridiculous. Of course Matt Hasselback is the better QB. He is more experienced and by far has better stats. He is more consistent and has built his reputation and established himself in a solid team for the past few years.

Alex Smith is just in his second year. He is developing and has done so quite well under the circumstances of the team. I wouldn't be suprised if in the future he becomes better, but I will wait until next season to see about that.

Hasselbeck

Hasselbeck is better. In my opinion Smith will never be a top 5 QB. Hasselbeck has been right up there, and he will be again. Hasselbeck might be the most underrated QB in the league.

Matt hasselbeck is better than alex smith, right now. alex smith is still developing and hasselbeck led his team to the super bowl a year ago. i think hasselbeck has a better accuarcy, while smith gets the edge in arm strenght.

i think it depends on what you mean. alex smith is a guy without much of a team to support him, his WR's are mediocre at best. the best receivers he has are frank gore and vernon davis. a HB and a TE. there is something wrong with this picture. but ales is still able to find a way to win and almost led his team to the playoffs last year. that being said last season was only ales smith's second season. if you remember matt hasslbeck's first 2 seasons he was abysmal. so alex smith is farther along than matt was at the same point in his career. ales smith is a guy you can build an offense around, that is why the 9ers drafted him. where as matt hasslebeck came after a string of QB's they had tried to build a team around. matt came into a better situation than alex did and it took him a while to be successful. i think time will show that alex is the better quarterback, and will be another in a nice history of great QB's in san fran.

Hasselbeck is better right now, however Alex Smith will probably suprass him as Hasselbeck's game is getting a little sloppier.

-Last time I checked 49ers won the season series vs the Seahawks, I wouldn't say better team, just more veteran and established

U can't compare them yet, wait till they retire, the only thing matt has done is gone to the Super Bowl, Smith has just begun so give it at least this year to figure if Smith can go to the playoffs.

Hasselbeck is better right now. He also plays for a better team and that always helps.

Hasselback right now only because Smith is just getting started. It's unfair to ask this question right now.
