What stereotypes do you agree/disagree with and why?

I agree with the following:
Nerds & geeks are sexy (the smart ones, anyway)
Psychiatrists have psychiatric problems
Lawyers are sharks
Cops have superiority complexes

My view of Stereotypes is that they are valid or there wouldn't be a stereo type..By that I mean that a whole group cannot fit a stereotype, but some groups have a lot of persons that do fit, and that is why the stereotype is noticed.

When you see a commonality enough in a group, you do pay attention, but there are exceptions as well.

Its very hard to be objective about these things.

I find some stereotypes have some truth on a level but as you know people better the distinction blur it all. Still, there are different flavors between cultures as general rule.

I believe that all stereotyping would go away if people didn't try so damn hard to live up to them. If black people would study instead of being lazy in class, the stereotype that they aren't intelligent would go away. If white people would exercise instead of being lazy, the stereotype that blacks are physically superior would go away. As far as good stereotypes, like Jewish folks being good with their money, why would you want those ones to go away?The key to getting rid of stereotypes is to make sure that you fight them, not live up to them.
