The birthplace of Democracy.
Mythology.
Athens, Sparta (that new movie 300 is about 300 Greeks at the battle of Thermopylae).
One fella considered the grandfather of philosophy Socrates, who taught Aristotle and Plato. Aristotle taught Alexander the Great, before he took his step off the edge of the known world (warring across the Persian Empire and into India).
The Oracle of Delphi.
Then there is one of the great mathematical genius's of his time. Living in Syracuse, then a city under Greek control, Archimedes.
The book of Revelations in the Bible was written on the Greek Island of Patmos.
There is a very long and distinguished history there that reaches forward into our lives still today from ancient Greece. American Democracy is based on Greek Democracy. I can look around me and see at least 8 things in our day and time that ancient Greeks invented or promoted. The Greeks were influential enough before the Romans to have an impact on the Roman Republic. The Roman Republic is what our form of government is based on with Greek Democracy to keep it from getting too out of hand.
What a story you have to tell there. You can talk about ancient Greece and still be telling our story today.
