Pick any current NFL player, stay away from Manning and Brady because thats who everyone would take.

Pick one for offense and one for defense.

Tell me why.

A fantasy draft like the one on Madden.

Definately LT

He runs for TD's, catches for TD's, and passes for TD's. This guy will save the day.

For defense,

Probably Champ Bailey. Love to build a great secondary, and he is the guy you need for that to happen. One of the few that actually will maintain his abilities.

Withouth a doubt, I take LaDainian Tomlinson 1st every time. There isn't anyone better. He runs with power, speed, and agility. Not to mention that he catches extremely well, and can even throw the occasional HB option.

Defensively, it gets a little less cut and dried. If you're talking about in the actual Madden video game, I guess I'd take whichever guy is the top player in the position you like to control. I don't think it matters at all in a video game.

If you mean in a fantasy football draft like the ones on yahoo, then I'd take Brian Urlacher. He intercepts the ball, he gets tackles and TFL's. But it really depends on the scoring system in this case.

The QB is the most important position on the field, you could be set everywhere else and if you don't have the QB you're screwed...Chicago Bears. But since you said that Manning and Brady are not options...I'd have to take Ladanian Tomlinson. I'm sure alot of people here are saying the same. If you can't build around a QB, may as well build around the most explosive and consistant RB in the league.

Close second would be Dwight Freeney, Brian Urlacher, Champ Bailey, or Shawn Merriman (with or without his 'roids).

Tomlinson is generally a pretty safe pick on offense. Because well it's LT, need I say more? I've actually seen someone take Vick once... not sure why but they did. Other than Brady and Manning like you mentioned Palmer should be a fairly safe bet with his receiving corps.

On defence, there are so many great players. You have you sack machine in Shawne Merriman. You have Champ Bailey with his league leading INTs and you have Jason Taylor because he's just an all around do it all guy.

Offense: I think having a good consistant RB is most important so I'd say LaDanian Tomlinson (RB, Chargers). He's been well over the 1,000 yard mark every season since he's been in the league so he shows consistency. He also had only 2 fumbles all season last season....which is impressive as much as he carries the ball.

Defense: Aaron Kampman (DT, Packers). His numbers continue to improve and last season he had 15.5 sacks as well as 89 tackles. Alot of people will say Shawne Merriman, but he only averages around 60 tackles a season...and we are talking about points here.

***If you're in a league that counts special teams stats (return yards/td's), pick up Devin Hester (WR, Chicago Bears). The Bears are also talking about using him more in their offense next season. So look for lots of numbers from him.

Like on Madden, or starting a franchise and not a Fantasy league pick I would have to go with Vince Young at QB. LT would be good but He does have a premier O line also....Starting a franchise I would start with a QB, then an O line.. Then a running back. Defense would be Urlacher.

Offense:
Ladanian Tomlinson
1) He is easily the best running back available and the running
back
is a very important position on offense.
2) He is also a very good receiver so he will help you out there.
3) He will make all the players around him better.

Defense:
Brian Urlacher
1) He is the best linebacker available.
2) He causes LOTS of turnovers and is fast enough to cover TE on
passing plays.
3) He can overpower most O linemen and is fast to get to the
quarterback.
4) The linebacker position is the center of your defense.

If you are playing in a fantsy league like on yahoo, LaDainian Tomlinson because, well, just look at his past season. 1800+ yards, 31 TDs, 9 straight games with 2 or more tds, 9 straight games with 100 yards plus, he is also a passing threat, as he did throw 2 td passes this season and the season before. he is also a recieving threat out of the backfield, having caught 100 passes in a season 3 years ago. in Norv Turners offense (which is the same one the chargers have been running since LT joined the team) LT will be more of a weapon this year, although he will probably not have the season he had last year.

I agree with all the others - LT is the best top fantasy pick and has been for a couple of years....

...unless, of course, John Madden puts him on the cover of the game this year...

On defense... either Urlacher for sacks and tackles or Ed Reed for INTs...
