LOL! i was thinking that same damn thing!
my parents are downstairs watching it.
i hate that show. it's so overrated.
it seems the only reason i watch it is because simon is hot.

Lots of reasons. Number 1, I think, is that these are just people, everyday kind of people. Not sons or daughters or grandchildren of famous people, for the most part. No one that has a leg-up or an unfair advantage. It's just people like us reaching for the American dream. Number 2, we like to see how awful (but generally accurate) Simon Cowell will be this week. That's the "love to hate him" element of the show. Number 3, we viewers get to decide who stays in each week. Number 4, it's great entertainment. Who doesn't love music?

Beats me. Mediocre singers singing (ususally) third-rate pop songs. Totally forgettable performances. Must be the thrill of getting to vote and feeling like you play a part in deciding the winner. And I guess people like picking their favorites and rooting them on. Me, I only like the first few episodes when all the really crazy people are trying out. After they weed out the weirdos, it's just boring.

I know!!! Because american idol is a reality show and it is very interesting to see these people sing and some of them fulfill their dreams. I am happy for the winners. And.............. IT ROX!!!

Because the singers are really good and diverse, the judges fight and give differing opinions, the competition is TIGHT, and some of the people on there are really attractive (personality-wise and physically).

because its one of the better reality shows out there and since that is all that is on tv anymore now adays.. we are kind of stuck and get obessed with what is given...sorta like yahoo answers

Advertisement, advertisement, advertisement! It's every freakin' place you look, and hear. Radio DJ's talk about it, TV talks about it, everyone talks about it.......NOT ME, I hate the stupid show, so I stopped watching those shows that talk about it, and won't listen to the radio shows that harp on in......and I don't buy the products the advertisers sell on the shows.
