My PC starts out working so slow, then after awhile, it picks up speed. I replaced my router, due to another issue, defragged the system, cleared the temp. files and cookies and it is still dragging. I also contacted the internet provider to do an online check of the system and they find nothing. Any ideas why it starts out slow then speeds up?

Probably because you have a lot of stuff starting up when you start up your computer. There are a couple options,

1) Reformat your computer, this makes ur computer go back to when you first installed your OS (usually factory status) and makes your computer run at close to it's top speed

2) Make nothing run on start up, this allows your computer to run faster at start up (i think this is what you're talking about)

3) Replace parts : If you're computer is old (like 3 or 4 years old), then it's probably time to upgrade your computer's technology a bit. Recommended in today's world is around 1GB of RAM, a processor like an Intel Pentium D 2.66ghz (probalby Core 2 Duo would be better), a 80GB + HD running at 7200RPM, and a decent video card like an ATI Radeon.

Posting your computer specs with your question would've made things a lot easier but i hope this helped.

Hello. I'm not sure if I can answer your question, but I'll give you what I can. My first thought is that you may have a number of programs going and actually need more RAM (this is memory not involving your hard drive). More RAM will speed things up. Aside from that, I'd run my antivirus and antispyware programs to check for things. Should you not have them, I'd get AVG's latest download and Spyware Terminator... two free apps that work well. Assuming it's not any virus or what not, I'd think it's the need for more ram or just maybe the fan isn't cooling your system like it should. I wish I could help you more. Good luck.

If you have automatic updates, they often update and install at startup. They require lots of resources so they slow your computer way down. Then, when they complete, your computer speeds up again. Keep an eye on the processes to find out. Point your pointer at the taskbar, right click and select task manager. Look at the performance tab.esp CPU use and processes. If you have over 45 processes you probaly have malware.
