I've heard from both religious and non-religious people alike, "Hate hurts the Hater more than the Hated," and similar ideas about Hate. But if people inadvertently hurt themselves by feeling Hatred, why is it that many people who Hate others can still love their family/friends and live happily? Is it not possible to Hate and be happy? Christians, as well as members of other religions, and even many atheists don't think so. What do you think? Are the dangers of Hatred exaggerated in today's society by so-called pro-love, pro-peace people?

It depends. If someone did something really awful to you that affected your life or how you live it, then I think the hatred there isn't hurting you. It might feel better to know that person is out of your life and never will be a part of it again. However, different strokes for different folks. As for some people, the fact that someone changed their life in a negative way, hurts them badly. So, they bring hate, but it doesn't make them feel better. It makes them feel worse. Sometimes, I just think it's better to look at the situation...and see if it really is worth harboring hatred. But, once again, it all depends on who the person is or what happened. If that person did something extremely awful to you, it is best to be away from the person, and I think you harbor that hatred naturally. I mean- they did something drastic to you. I hope this answered your question.

I think that depends on how the hatered was generated in the first place. My father was a very volitle man when I was growing up and I often got smacked and yelled at for small offenses. I hate the SOB to this day and I'm 2 weeks away from going into the Navy. I tend to hate those who treated me badly or those that didnt seem to care. Some people hate the whole world, because in their view, nobody gives a rats rump about them. It's sad, but we dont get to choose everything in our lives. Sometimes you just have to make do with what your given.

If you're a believer of God, you'd be familiar with the Commandment on "Do Not Hate'. I try not to hate anybody, but deep down I feel that sense. My expression is to not like them.

Maybe somewhat. But then again, I think people are willing to indulge in hatred over matters which may not merit it.
Hatred has its place, but it does make trouble in a civil society.

No, it's not that bad. Unless of course the hate becomes an obsession. Most people hate someone or something its normal.

If you harbor hatred in your heart, you are the one who will suffer -- mentally, spiritually and physically. You're angry every time you think about them -- they're taking control of your mind -- do you see my point?

It's true, you love your family; but there are times that you're upset and fight with your family too. When this happens, you'd tell yourself that you hate them too -- and you are consumed with this until the time that you forgive.

people are happy around their family/friends becuz they dont hate them. they only feel alot of hatred/hatred to the peron that they hate. i dont like someone, but when i dont see them, i dont care about them, and dont think of them....you can still be happy around your friends or family even though you hate someone becuz you dont hate them, you hate the person you hate..
