The water went off on 2/03/07 and will not be back on until sometime in May when the ground stops freezing overnight. I had to rent another house to live in incurring additional monthly rent. Is typically there any kind of coverage in my homeowner's insurance that would give compensation of some type?

Your homeowner's insurance will not cover this situation. You can, however, purchase insurance from your water company for damages to the outside waterline. This type of insurance should cover your situation.
The outside pipe, leading into your house, is actually consider yours in the sense that you are responsible to pay for repairs to it. This is why water companies will occasionally send offers of insurance that covers these situations. I'm assuming you do not have this coverage, so you would have to pay out of pocket to have the ground dug up - they new piping would have to be installed, hopefully deeper this time around to get it under the frost line. Note: I'm assuming you own the home. If you rent this home, then your landlord would be responsible for this repair, and you should negotiate a change in terms to your lease - since he would be responsible.

Probably not, however when you purchase insurance you might want to check on BROAD insurance. This is an extensive program, cost a bit more but well worth the extra$. Most insurance companies will not or do not advise their clients of this type of coverage.

You would have to call your insurance agent and find out, normally these kind of things are covered but it depends upon what type of a homeowners policy you have as there are several kinds of policies.

It depends on your policy of course. Call them in the morning and see what they say. Do you own the house? I'm sorry this happened to you. We had severe water/flooding problems and that was a nightmare.

You can talk to your landlord about this because obviously you are not able to live in the house. If he's reasonable, he'll understand.
