I am researching Cherokee Indian culture, like costumes, and customs, and I am not having much luck finding what I am looking for. Does anyone know what the costumes are called, and where I can find a picture of them? Also does anybody know any customs or traditions for the Cherokee Indian tribes?

I am one, so yes. Your best bet would be contacting the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, or paying a visit to the site at www.cherokee-nc.com

We don't have costumes of any sort, rather regalia, and for the ladies it's what's known as a tear dress---a calico fabric dress with ribbons (usually Eastern, like I have) or a larger applique (Oklahoma pattern.) The gentlemen are known for their cloth turbans, usually with a large ostrich feather . Think of the picture of Sequoyah, that's what the menswear is like.

That being said, there are quite some businesses that promote their organizational club for individuals no longer in a position to affix/benefit citizenship with the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes. lower back, those communities, some calling themselves tribes, are non-federally recognized and, usually, are non-earnings businesses. a short thanks to inform if the "tribe" is extra regularly than not a tribe or a non-earnings is in the journey that they cost for enrollment and/or workplace artwork processing. No federally recognized tribes cost for enrollment.

I saw some books at a library about them, lots of books even. Try going to the library. Also while you ARE online, track down the tribal council website, most larger tribes have one and that might have some good info for you. Search google for "Cherokee Tribal Council"
