I would be too. That's too fast for it to be over feeding or anything like that. The only thing that possibly comes to mind for me is contaminated food. Double check the water for ammonia just to be sure and if it's not high then I would call the place you bought the food and tell them what happened and let tem know you expect at the very least a refund. Also encourage them to remove the remaining packages of this food from their shelves.

While it could be bad algae discs, I would also have to question whether this could be a coincidence and that maybe you had water quality issues that happened at the same time. To eliminate all other possibilities so that you can make a relatively informed decision as to whether the algae disks are to blame, you should test the water to see where its parameters are at. If your ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are where they should be, if your temperature or other water-related issues didn't have any spikes, then I would be left with not much else to believe but that the algae disks could've been the cause. Can you do something about this? Maybe. You could tell the store, but chances are, they're going to refer you to the manufacturer. Chances are too, that even if you take it to the manufacturer, they probably are just going to ignore you. If you were a big name breeder with a champion fish, I can promise you they'd react, but, you're not. Will anyone reimburse you for your loss? While I'd like to believe there are good people out there, call me cynical, which I am!, but I doubt you'll get anyone to do anything about it. Am I telling you not to do anything? No. Definitely at least try to do something about it. Bottom line, and I don't, by any means, intend to sound callous about this, but it's a sad lesson we learn sometimes. The best you can do is to not buy that product anymore and let the retailer and the manufacturer know this and that you will tell everyone you know not to buy it either. I'm really sorry for you that this happened. If I knew I could blame it on the algae discs, I would be furious and heartbroken too!
