I always call first because yes I do think it is rude for someone to just stop by. . . .unless it is a neighbor needing something or if is were an emergency. I have to have at LEAST an hour to tidy up the house. LOL

The RUDEST thing to do is to just "Show Up". It shows a LACK of manners and concern for the person that you are all of a sudden appearing on their doorstep.
I ALWAYS call ahead, and make sure that not only is it a good day to meet the person I want to visit, but that they can meet with me as well as get my TRAVEL Plans ... because this Empty-Nesting Single Retiree wants the folks to know when to anticipate I will show up at their home, as well as if I do not make it ... where to start looking for me (in case of accident or other calamity happening).

I really love visiting with people so I would not mind them just dropping by -- I live alone for now so it's a joy to have visitors--announced or unannounced.
If I am going to visit someone I usually call first to make sure they're home. If I am going to see my daughter up at college -- I let her know ahead of time since her schedule is so hectic.

I call first. It's not really fair to just show up because what if the person doesn't want company at that time? They could be sick or maybe just enjoying some alone time. It's more polite to call. Or if you're going to just show up, don't stay long.

I don't really consider it rude when someone comes over unannounced as I love having company unless I feel bad. I always call before I go to my friends house to make sure they will be home and aren't doing anything.

I always call...just wanna make sure they're gonna be there or else the visit is pointless. Yes I think it's rude because they could be in the middle of something important.

It mostly depends on where I'm going. I usually call unless we are just out riding around and decide to stop by someone's house. I use to call my sister, but now when I go to see her, I just go without calling. It got to the point, everytime we called, she wanted us to stop and pick up wine, diet cokes, cigs, or something. She would always say she would pay us when we got there. Ha I haven't seen that money yet. I got wise to it.

I hate it when people just come over, and because of that, I try to show other people the same courtesy, I always call first.
