Thank you for this question, it has prompted me to add some more 80's stuff to my ipod, some that i have on my Ipod now are:
Frankie goes to hollywood
The Police
a-ha
Blondie
U2 (their best decade)
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Van Halen
The Human League
The Smiths
Daryl Hall & John Oates
Cutting Crew
Level 42
INXS
Billy Idol
A Flock Of Seagulls
Kool & The Gang
Imagination
Belinda Carlisle
The Pretenders
Tears for Fears
But you have made me look on net for some reminders of that great decade and came across this website that will be useful in jogging my brain of 80's music.

Also grew up then and loved the music so much! Not sure what style you were into (indie, pop, rock, punk, new wave, etc.) and also not sure what you would consider "obvious" (maybe the big hits on MTV?). But I just skimmed over my mp3s and found some from that era that are usally overlooked when people think of '80's music. Hope you like them!
Icicle Works – Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)
Nik Kershaw – Wouldn’t it be Good
Marshall Crenshaw – Someday, Someway
Fine Young Cannibals – Suspicious Minds OR
Fine Young Cannibals – Johnny Come Home (I like ‘em both!)
The Waterboys – The Whole of the Moon
The Lover Speaks -- No More I Love You's
Clash – Rudie Can’t Fail
Sugarcubes – Birthday
Pixies – Here Comes Your Man (or ANY Pixies song!)
The Replacements – Alex Chilton
Split Enz – History Never Repeats
XTC – Mayor of Simpleton
Pretenders -- Message of Love
Concrete Blonde – Joey (EDIT: whoops, just checked; this one was from 1990; my memory's going!! Still a great tune though!)
Men At Work – Overkill
PiL -- Seattle
Primitives -- Crash
The Jam -- Town Called Malice
