In 1936, the federal government published an informational pamphlet on Social Security. It stated:

"…and finally, beginning in 1949, 12 years from now, you and your employer will each pay 3 cents on each dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. That is the most you will ever pay."

There are plenty of events that occured that still affects us today. 1. terrirorism impacted us more today than before. 9/11 2. WW I. Age of Imperalism. The U.S. keeps on competing for new markets around the world. It still happens today. The U.S. keeps on competing for the best military, naval, etc. with other countries. 3. plenty of education reforms, like Scopes Monkey Trial. The issue of evolution is still being debated today. 4. invention of the computer. It caused quite a revolution. 5. gender divide- women have always need to have the same rights as men do. 6. Great Depression. It caused the U.S. to create the Social Security Act, and many more acts that existed today. It even brought up protection for the stock market. I wouldn't say the Civil Rights Movement. In our own minds, we are still segregated today and racism does occur.(de facto segregation) despite WW II.

Lots of ways. We got Social Security. We got lots of laws that protect labor and all working people, banking security, securities regulations to make investments safer (not SAFE, just safER), we got a lot of infrastructure built including highways, bridges, hydroelectric stations like Hoover Dam, Grand Coulee, and the TVA, the Golden Gate Bridge, tons of stuff really. All because the country reacted to the depression by wisely electing Franklin D. Roosevelt President, and a Democratic congress that kept things moving upward for 60 years until the Republicans came in and screwed everything up.

Many of the people who grew up during the great depression, or whos parents grew up during the depression save their money because thats how they were raised. They also usually harbor a mistrust of the govererment and are wary of the stockmarket.

Well, the great depression indirectly caused WW II.

We still have a mess in Israel becaus of that one.

The rise of the U.S. came because of that war.

The New Deal introduced well fare.

We have all kinds of anti-trust laws as a result of some of the dishonest stock manipulation that happened in the 1930s.

Some claim we also eat more meat in reaction to the 1930s generation being so glad when meat was cheap.

I firmly believe alot of social programs that are in place now would not exist. Job Corp and the Social Security tax for example would never been an issue for future generations.
