The number you should put in is related to the size of the fish you want. I'm assuming you already have this tank cycled properly, so your ammonia and nitrites are 0.

A "big" fish is going to put a heavy bioload on your tank all at once. I'd start with 2-3 smaller (2") fish the first week. If all goes well, add the same the second week, and every week thereafter till you get those you want. If you want a larger fish, add it singly. It's best to start with the smaller, slower, and more peaceful species so they get to know the tank before you put the bigger, faster guys in. Keep an eye on the ammonia/nitrites to see if you need to do an extra water change - if so, don't add fish the following week (or until the ammonia/nitrite level drops). If you keep the additions small and monitor the effects on your water quality, there's less chance of anything going wrong for the fish you already have.

Everyone's answers are excellent. Also another good rule of thumb is that you can have as many fish as long as they fit head to tail in a line from one end of the tank to another.. for example.. if you measure the face of your tank from the left side to the right, and it is 30 inches, and you want to put three fish that are each 10 inches long in the tank, that would be fine.

a general rule of thumb is one inch of fish for every gallon in your tank. Your fish seem kinda small so you do have a lot of room to work with. However, you don't want too many fish too quickly. I would only add about 5 inches of fish (that way it depends on the size instead of quantity) a week until you have reached the desired level.

Assuming the tank is cycled you could doubel the cyurrent bioload without a problem, so about 4-5 fish, depending on their size.

You should add only a few to start and see how they do mabye 4 or 5. Also do reasearch to make sure that the diffrent breeds are suitable for each other.
