There have been several studies done to determine if there is indeed a correlation, but, most have provided little insight. As in many areas, the results had a tendency to be inconclusive, and, somewhat skewed. Unlike studies that indicate that couples naturally choose partners with opposite temperaments, physical characteristics are a little hard to determine. Who determines if they look alike, etc. It has been stated that, couples do have a tendency to look more similar, as they grow older. The reason for this is also in question. The most likely reason for an attraction of people of similar features, is that we feel more comfortable with someone who we can most easily relate. Choosing someone of similar features eases the progress of acceptance.

the weird thing is that when it is put in those terms it makes me think of animals, but yes it is human nature to want someone that is similar to you.
