15 years ago a house which was in my name only, I believe was illegally sold by my ex-husband. Is is too late to seek compensation? I believe he had someone pretend to be me since he also tried to get credit under my ss# around the same time which I recently discovered on my credit report. Should I see a lawyer? I don`t have any real money to put out for legal fees. I could really use some feedback.

There are many, many more questions that need to be asked, especially what state you are in. Property laws differ by state. It seems like it is more complicated than you may think. As far as only collecting a fee if you win or whatever, that really only applies to personal injury or class action cases, to name a few.

You would probably pay a lawyer by the hour to do this for you. My suggestion, contact a local law school and ask if they have a clinic that you can get in touch with. Clinics are a bunch of law students practicing under the license of an attorney who will help for free (for the most part). Please don't listen if anybody tries to tell you they know the answer, there is so much more an attorney would need to know.

I'm confused as to why the question is coming to you 15 years after the fact, because I don't see how you could have a house in your name and not known that it was sold illegally or otherwise until recently.

go see a lawyer about the recent issues. but as for the house..you waited 15 years for this? don't think youre gonna win that one honey. give it a shot though. most lawyers believe it or not won't ask for compensation unless they win.
