Well if she already has a name picked out. Get her something that is personalized that she will always have. Like a pillow or something that people make to hang out walls. They arent too expensive and are so adorable. And the lil girl can keep her whole life!

When the baby's a few months old, offer an entire weekend of babysitting while your friend and her husband/boyfriend have the weekend to themselves to either go to a hotel or stay at home and you take the baby. Also, make yourself available for midnight feedings on occasion. Like every other week you'll spend the night and get up with the baby for the first couple of months.

You can get the mother Dr Spocks parenting book. I always referred to it from infancy to many years later. Very informative book. I had gotton it for my baby shower & it was one of the most valuable gifts I got.
As for the baby you can get a musical merry-go-round that plays really nice baby song as it goes around. They also have with teddy bears, different animals etc with music too. Some are on a see-saw going up & down as music plays etc...They are very nice & unique gifts. Congrats on your god daughter. That is exciting!

they are a reward from him.

My friend gave my baby one of those stuffed animals with the blanket attached to it and his name stitched on the blanket. I always thought it was adorable but now that my son is almost 8 months, he's really starting to love the blanket too and uses it as his comfort for his crib. I think it could be something that your friend's baby girl may love too and she will carry along with her as she grows - even when it's falling apart at the seems :) She'll always know that you gave her her favorite thing!

One of my best friends gave me kind of a combo package, and I thoguht it rocked....it was a jumbo pack of diapers, a bath set for baby, a Build a Bear, which by the way, is very unique, and definitely something you can personalize, and a diaper bag. And then for me, she gave me handmade coupons for things like one night of babysittiing, one girls night in, stuff like that. Congrats on being a Godmother! You're off to a good start!

Try potterybarnkids.com or redenvelope.com for unique infant gifts. A good gift for a baby girl is a pretty bassinet.
I like the idea of the embroidered blanket, I got one for my son from redenvelope.
Also, Coach & Kate Spade make REALLY nice diaper bags.

A baby crib would be nice and something that she can reuse if she decides to have more kids. It would be special because its something that would be apart of the family and provides comfort to baby.

Hmmm. Okay, try this:
A family pass to the local zoo. Wait! think about this... These passes can be good for unlimited visits for a year.AND, they can be honored at zoos and aquariums all over the country! Think of it! Wonderful family entertainment, relaxation, education...and I bet your friend doesn't get a duplicate gift, either.

Get her a baby blanket and have the baby's name and birth date (when it is official) embroidered on the blanket, or you can get one of those pictures that have the babies name and the meaning of the name on it.
