A fetus is not considered full term until week 37. At 32 weeks the baby is less than 4 pounds on average and less than 17 inches long. The child still has a third of his birthweight to gain in your womb. The skeleton is not hardened at this stage. The skull bones are not fused together enough. The fat layers are not developed which helps him control body temp. The central nervous system is not matured. The lungs are not matured.
Your child will more than likely be in the hospital for a month if delivered at this stage and there is a chance the child may not survive.
So to answer the question, no, it is not safe to have your baby now.

There are always problems with a premature baby. My youngest was born at 35 weeks, perfect peach. 5 lbs 13 oz 18 inches. My water broke, I had no choice but to have her. If given the chance, I would have let her stay in the 40 weeks. I had a baby at 29 weeks who was died from complications of a premature birth. I suggest you keep that baby in as long as possible.
Just an FYI, if baby is born at 32 weeks she will stay in the hospital more than "about a week" I would say 6 or 8 weeks.

Its still a little too early! Anything before 37 weeks is considered premature and why take those risks. The baby will be doing a lot of growing in the next 5-8 weeks and at 32 weeks, unless you are having serious health problems, I don't think any doc would agree to induce. Good luck. You don't have much longer to go.

You're looking at a long stay for your baby in NICU. Are you just concerned, or are you really going to have this baby soon? While 40 weeks is considered ideal, anything after 36 has given the baby time to be developed enough to have a healthy start without intensive care.

the longer the baby stays in there, the better. prematurity is NOT GOOD for the baby at all. the baby is not fully developed. listen, i know you are probably ready for the baby to come, but trust me, let the little one stay in there as long as possible. one of the last organs to fully develope is the lungs and at 32 weeks they may not be ready. everyone who tells you it would be fine are lying, their babies were just lucky. a 32 weeker is NOT ready to be born, they stay in there for 40 weeks for a reason. people should not be telling you it's ok, a baby at 32 weeks could still have problems with their brain also.

It is way too early right now to have the baby. Lungs are not developed completely yet and probably still has a lot of growing to do. With technology today the baby could probably live but i wouldn't want anyone to go through something like that. Good luck with everything and best wishes for you and your baby!

No. The babys lungs arent fully ready until @ least 36 weeks. I almost went into labor @ 31 weeks and the Dr.s said it wouldnt have been good, they woulda had to give the baby steroids to hurry up the development of the lungs and he woulda spent alot of time in the NICU.

The longer you can wait the better. The lungs are the last things to form and start working. Usually by 36 weeks there should not be too many difficulties. And even now there shouldn't be many, and wouldn't think they'd be life threatening. Talk to your doctor and/or your pediatrition about your concerns. That's what we pay them so much for!
