Because he doens't have any experience. not for president of the US anyway. He should finish his FIRST term in the senate before running for president. He only has some local political experience and this is his first term in the senate. That's why.

Part of the worry is that Barack Obama is both young and relatively new to national politics. Before taking his Senate seat just over two years ago, he was a state senator, a localized position that does not deal on a national stage.

He is relatively young at the age of 45. This would not make him the youngest President, as Kennedy was elected at 43, and Teddy Roosevelt inagurated at 42 after McKinley died. Still, his age raises questions of inexperience, particularly because Mr. Obama still has a youthful vigor about him.

Beyond this, his family has no notable political experience. Before his election to the state senate, he had very little political experience to speak of.

So in short, Barack Obama hasn't had a lot of experience on a national level, and the contacts he has within politics are likely less established through time and familiarity than most other candidates. Hillary Clinton's eight years as First Lady unquestionably left her with more than a few Washington buddies to rely on.

As for whether his inexperience is a good or bad thing, that remains to be decided. If he has the capacity to run the nation well, a lack of obligations in his contacts may well be a positive thing. On the other hand, he may not have as many allies to rely upon to smooth the road for difficult policies.

To make a good story, every candidate needs one strength and one weakness. "Lack of experience" is a good catchall weakness. He has two years of national, eight years of state (not "local" as he was said in an earlier answer). As a member of the Foreign Relations committee, Obama has more experience in foreign affairs than Presidents Bush the younger, Clinton, Reagan, or Carter had before they were elected.

You will note that Giuliani does not get criticisized for his lack of experience, despite only having city-wide governing experience. That's because his weakness is his "liberal social views." Oh, and because his city has a larger population than many states.

In1980 it became into concept that Jimmy Carter became into going to win a 2nd term because of the fact the GOP became into ineffective and could desire to arise with no longer something yet Ronald Reagan who became into frequently seen a cowboy and and fool nicely some fool he became out to be a 2 term president at that and that i see an analogous subject springing up this next time too. Democrats infrequently have 2 presidents in row except one dies yet they in simple terms can no longer seem to hold on for extremely long. i've got self assurance that Obama would be a one term president because of the fact so some distance he has no longer a leg to stand on he's a failure in simple terms as Carter became right into a failure. nicely seem, he would not also have a genuine foreign places coverage he has no concept what to do there is not any real coverage different than to have Hillary pass out and hug up on dictators. I do exactly no longer see any substance with this guy he's clever and a stable speaker as long as he has his telepromter yet he in simple terms would not have the basic-or-backyard spirit that Bush has and he in simple terms would not are available the time of as being a patriotic American and would not have the awareness that maximum presidents in the previous have had even Harry Truman had awareness even however he wasn't the best president we ever had and he became right into a sort maker even yet it could no longer have been prevalent he became into very path and had a foul mouth yet what he mentioned caught and meant something.

Odd, Obama has had more years of public service than Edwards and Clinton yet everyone is casting it the other way. Washington DC is not the only place to gain experience.

Nor would be be the youngest president.

I don't need to see the article. There are no politicians that come with experience. Duh-bya never walked into the office with experience. As governor of Texas he never had to deal with the inherent problems that come from the other regions of our country.
I wouldn't elect Duh-bya to the position of Dog Catcher. He doesn't have enough experience.

George W. Bush only had four years of political experience before he became President.
