I know for status symbols, but think harder. There must be a deeper reason.

I don't. I shopped mostly at Costco/Kohl/Big 5 for my clothes and shoe. To me price is a bigger importance than brand name.

Status symbols are important to some people. Usually those people are very materialistic and self-absorbed, but they need the attention and recognition they get from having those items. It helps to boost their self-confidence, which is really sad.

There is nothing wrong with having nice/expensive things though, they just shouldn't define you as a person. Fashion and clothing should be an expression of the person inside.

status and people like some brands of clothing more than others. some people will only wear cloths from one brand because of the style and it may suit there personality or just like what that brand makes. also that some brands have better quality fit better and feel better and last longer.

I actually don't care for the status symbol. I'm too poor to care.

But I do like nicer brands that fit better and are more durable. For myself, I usually buy whatever is cheapest. But for the kids and my husband, I buy nicer stuff. For the kids it's because I want to be able to save it as a hand-me-down, so it needs to be very durable. For the husband, I want clothes that fit him really well for his job, so he makes a good impression.

A well known brand name usually carries the promise or guarantee of a quality/long-lasting effective (insert any adjective here) product. When you purchase a generic product, you know you are getting an imitation and you may not really be sure what makes the knock-off different than the original product.

i will only buy one certain name brand for my jeans because they are the only ones that fit 100% properly! i love them and i wouldn't have it any othe way-as for shirst and shoes i buy what i like where ever i may find it - at a thrift store to a department store- to a mall- as long as it fits right -i could care less- i don't wear caual shoes- i wear dress shoes or boots with high heels. highschools of course are bad for always having brand name clothes to fit in-now i coudn't tell you why on them they do- maybe to feel worth something-to feel great being in clothes that they can barely afford-don't know sorry

There's too many reasons that depend on the individual to just generalize. For many people it is the fact that they can afford something that is nice and noticable. Others it is to fit into a certain social group that is accepted by society. Many women just have a desire for shopping and splurging on something self rewarding as a treat to them selves to keep them happy in their life. The number one reason is that U.S. is a consumer nation. We consume because we are at a stage in the world where we are competent and able to enjoy the finer things the world has to offer.

We care for brand of jeans/shoes/clothes to wear because there are other brands that are not comfortable to us

Personally, I could care less of what kind of brand I wear. Another reason is probably because they want to seem rich and not poor so people don't make fun of them. At least that's how people at my school are.

Usually good brand provide better quality and design, thus more comfortable to wear and last longer. But of course some unknown brands can be as good.
