While Hardy was injured Edge had an affair with Lita. Which would later turn into the firing of Matt to prevent fights. But with the Hardy chants he was resigned and the real life situation turned into an angle.

I think when they were in a match Matt Hardy was doing a ten punch to Edge and Edge slipped under Matt and Matts face hit the ring post and he got busted open and Matt was still saying Come On and he was all like dizzy or something because his face was all bloody and edge won.

Matt was saying while he was out because of injury lita who was matt's girlfriend at that time went behind his back and cheated with edge who was matt's best friend. WWE then turned that into storyline and they had a match at summerslam.
