It is a from a 2000ish Hong Kong film called Infernal Affairs. I believe that it was originally a trilogy or two movies that were combined to form the Departed. It starred Andy Lau, Tony Leung, and other well known Hong Kong actors. Hope this helps.

The Departed was lifted pretty directly from an Asian flick, Infernal Affairs (not the 1990 Hollywood pic with Richard Gere and Andy Garcia, which wasn't bad either), which members of the film cognoscenti, which sure don't include me, say is better. Maybe so, and you can get it through Netflix, along with Infernal Affairs II and Infernal Affairs III. I hope this helps!

PS: Supposedly whenever someone dies or is about to die in the movie, there is always an X somewhere in the scene. Scorsese used this hinting technique from one of his old favorite gangster movies, Scarface: The Shame of a Nation.
