Going through the same thing looking for a gift for my wife (you're not her are you?).

A bonsai tree is a good, novel gift (going with the tradional wood option). It grows as we do etc.

If you would like to go by tradition, why not buy him something made of wood,as its the 5th anniversary symbol.Maybe a nice masculine ornament,or maybe something wooden for the garden,if he is a gardener.

If you can afford it...a nice holiday. Even a weekend away so you can spend some time with each other.
