Is it possible for Word to organize a list for you alphabetically if you type in the words in non-alphabetical order?

Yes, it is possible; if I understand your question correctly. Go to Tables> Sort> Paragraph> and the radio button should be clicked on Ascending.

If each of the items to be sorted is in a paragraph by itself, do this: 1. Select all the paragraphs. 2. Click the Home tab on the ribbon. 3. In the Paragraph group, click the AZ↓ button. Hope that helps.
