Depends when you last exercised, but it's actually better to do push ups and sit ups right before you go to bed. Also depending on how many you can do, do 2 sets of 25 each.

1 day? not bad. Just do some yoga type stretching before bed and If it'll make you feel better tack on some extra exercises to your routine tomorrow.

If you skip a day make sure you cut your food/calorie intake in half.

late day exercise is said to worsen insomnia and the peak lung performance is late afternoon for exercise ~ there is a study for everything.
call it a day start fresh in the morning.
