I will be in the Dallas, Fort Worth area. Won't have much free time due to going to a conference.

Cathy S is wrong about Fort Worth. There's no cattle drive through the city everyday. Once a year, on a Saturday that celebrates Frontier Day, there may be one to recreate the cattle drive back in the 19th century.

The rest of the time, it's like any other a modern American city with high rise office buildings and nice hotels and restaurants as well as nice residential neighborhoods.

The downtown area was revived in the 80's and is now one of the safest and most beautiful downtowns in America. The Northside, a few miles from downtown, is a tourist area with the old stockyard, a rodeo stadium where there are rodeo show every Saturday night and the biggest honky tonk in Texas called Billy Bob.

Fort Worth also has some of the best museums in the world: the Kimbell Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Amon Carter Museum of American Arts...

I just spent last winter there. Depends on what you like to do. If you have an afternoon when you can sneek away I would go to Austin(3 hour drive) or San Antonio(4 hr drive). Austin has sixth street which has a ton of music clubs. Any and every type of music is there. Go up into the hills overlooking Austin, beautiful sight of the city and the Colrado river. San Antonio has the riverwalk and of course the Alamo. Riverwalk is a blast. A lot of restaurants, bars, shopping etc. Best thing I seen in Texas, and I covered at leat half of the state.
There really isn't a lot to see in Dallas that is very exciting. The most fun I had was taking a tour of Dallas stadium. It cost $10 and you get to go in the locker room, in a suite, and on the field. I went with a few co-workers, after bending their arm, and they ended up loving it. The tours run just about every day and take about an hour. Ft. Worth is OK, not really much there. The famous "Stockyards" are just some resturants and gift shops in a small part of the old stockyards. If you only have "hours" of free time, it's worth the 1/2 hr drive. The parade around a few cattle.
Downtown Dallas and the Kennedy deal are a waste of time in my opinion, all the good shopping, nightclubs, etc are all on the outerbelt. Have fun!!

In Dallas I highly reccomend for shopping the Dallas Galleria, or Northpark (recently renovated and added on to, it's really nice) both have great shopping, and about the same stores. Also, you should go see the Nasher Sculpture Center, even if you don't like sculpture there are some really cool things there, and it's just fun to walk around outside. And of course, there's always the Dallas Museum of Art (right across the street from the Nasher), there's always some good stuff there to see.

In Dallas go to the President Kennedy musem at the Book Depository. This is where he was shot from a window. And all kinds of Kennedy Memerbillia is on display with the window where he was shot from kept the same as it was then. Dallas Alley downtown is fun with great places to eat and fun shops. It is a street that has been developed for fun times. The Dallas skyline is gourgous at night. I think everyday in Fort Worth they have the cattle drive down the center of town, to the markets. More for tourists than the market though. Eat a Texas long horn steak for sure...Good time to go it won't be too hot or humid.
