First of all, nobody died of disease. Sergeant Floyd died of a burst appendix.

Grizzlies
Hostile Native Americans (Sioux and Blackfeet only) including a bloody encounter with the Blackfeet where 2 warriors were killed (14 miles from my house, BTW)
Mosquitoes
Rain and flash floods
Hail
Having to determine which branch was the real Missouri (at the Marias) and which branch to take at other times (Three Forks)
Exhaustion
Having to portage all their equipment over 17 miles around the Great Falls
Having to find Indians to trade with to get horses
No food in certain areas (Lost Trail Pass)
Rainy, depressing weather in Oregon
Charging bison
Incompetent help (Charboneau)
Language barrier with Native American tribes
RUNNING OUT OF WHISKEY!!
Problems with discipline of the men at first
Rattlesnakes
An Indian in Oregon/Washington stole Lewis's dog Seaman
LEWIS GOT SHOT IN THE BUTT by a member of the party!
Not having good medicine to cure the simplest of ailments
Prickly pear cactus and hard dried ground that cut and bruised the men's feet
Major diarrhea from switching from red meat to fish

Man, I could go on all night about this one....

Encountering Indians, people dieing from diseases, and running out of food and water. =] We just learned about them in Social Studies.
