Police officers are posing as drug dealers to entrap offenders and illegal drug laws have been criticized as being unethical. What do you think? Do you think it's alright or completely unethical for them to be doing such a thing?

You cannot entrap someone if they break the law on their own accord. In order to use entrapment in the court of law, then you are admitting that you were doing wrong. In your scenario admitting to buying or selling drugs. Most people don't wake up one morning and think, Hey, I'm going to go and buy drugs today and become a drug addict.

Law enforcement due to laws and policy have guidelines in which they must follow. Just like with all professions you have good and bad. However, law enforcement needs to do what is necessary (within the aforementioned laws and policy) to get these people off our streets.

I do not think it is unethical in the least....I think it is a necessity.

Police officers posing as drug dealers is not entrapment, they're not tricking them into doing anything they wouldn't have done on their own accord... well maybe except for going to a cop to buy drugs. No laws regarding illegal drugs has ever caught my attention as being unethical.
