Contrary to many people's beliefs, cheerleading is definately a sport. I was a competitive cheerleader for my whole life up until college. Everyone said it wasn't a sport, but as soon as they came to an open house where they could try it, they all changed their minds. Also, on one of my teams (the coed team) most of the guys were the hs football players who took up cheerleading to keep them in shape. Don't let what others say get to you, their opinions don't matter...it's what you feel that really matters.

The people that say that cheer-leading is not a sport are clueless. It's more demanding, more competitive and require more discipline than most sports. You learn to trust your teammates with your physical integrity, and creates some of the best friendships between girls and boys that I have seen. So Nicole, keep on enjoying one of the best sports around.

i think it depends on the intensity of the sport. So if you're competing then i think it would be considered a sport. Cause you have to stay in shape and be fit. Im sure you have to maintain a certain weight and have muslce strengths then it's consider a sport to me. Im mostly basing my answer on cheerleaders who work for a professional sport team

Its not a sport, its more like an activity, or an art. Its great, but it is not a sport. At least not to me. But its fine.

It is fairly atheletic, but cheerleading is so.. not a sport! Historically, it is a sidekick to men's sports.
Gymnastics, which is similar, is a sport in its own right.

My 7 yr old boy said yes. I say yes too. You practice, use energy, skill, and compete. You just look cute while sweating so others say no.

Hell no it isn't. Neither is syncronized swimming, ice skating, and "stomping the yard". Any event left up solely to judges for scoring isn't a sport.
