The way the UN acted in Rwanda still infuriates me. General Dallaire could have stopped the genocide, but he couldn’t get past UN bureaucrats who failed to allow him to act. Kofi Annan was head of Peacekeeping Operations at the time and held back U. N. troops from intervening to settle the conflict, and from providing more logistical and material support. In particular, Dallaire claims that Annan failed to provide any responses to his repeated faxes asking him for access to a weapons depository, something that could have helped defend the endangered Tutsis.

UN is irrelevant. It is all talk and no action. They do nothing to help people. Sudan and Rwanda come to my mind.

The UN is not irrelevant.
The United Nations (UN) is an international organization that describes itself as a "global association of governments facilitating co-operation in international law, international security, economic development, and social equity." It was founded in 1945 at the signing of the United Nations Charter by 51 countries, replacing The League of Nations which was founded in 1919.
As of 2006 there exist 192 United Nations member states, including virtually all internationally recognised independent states. From its headquarters in New York City, the UN's member countries and specialized agencies give guidance and decide on substantive and administrative issues in regular meetings held throughout each year. The organization is divided into administrative bodies, including the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, UN Economic and Social Council, UN Trusteeship Council, UN Secretariat, and the International Court of Justice, as well as counterpart bodies dealing with the governance of all other UN system agencies, such as the WHO and UNICEF. The UN's most visible public figure , acting also as the representative of the body, is the Secretary-General, currently being Kofi Annan.
The UN was founded after the end of World War II by the victorious allied powers with the hope that it would act to prevent and intervene in conflicts between nations and make future deadly wars impossible or limited, by fostering an ideal compromised of collective security. The organization's structure still reflects in some ways the circumstances of its founding. For example, the five permanent members of the Security Council, with veto power, are the five main victors of World War II or their successors: People's Republic of China (which replaced the Republic of China), France, Russia (which replaced the Soviet Union), the United Kingdom, and the United States.

There is no army attached to the UN that is willing to fight the major killers in the world - like China, USA or russia, France or the UK? No court of justice that matters.
The immoral foxes are running the dysfunctional intl alliance club and beating the weaker members senseless at their whim.
Renegade members run amuck. The UN is a manifestation of organized crime. Israel is a good example...lapdog of the USA and pitbull against Arabs, Israelis can attack hospitals, kill children and use tanks to run over USA activists because they are bankrolled by the USA. The rogues can flaunt laws under the protection of the USA and UK.
As long as the INTL money is flowing, the UN is a eunuch; and desperate states like Israel, or at the other extreme N Korea, can see the thug UN as irrelevant.

Well the idea of UN is great, unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in today's world...Unfortunately the UN has become a political tool for some of the strongest countries in the world...They veto and vote resolutions only if those are in their best interests...without caring much about how those votes could affect the other countries...
And I have to agree with MaxNHL...all that UN does is talk about how they could solve the problems ,but when it comes to acting, they do nothing....
