Any tips regarding accomodations for upcoming state testing in CALIFORNIA? Son is a 3rd grader with autism. He can read, respond to comprehension questions. But, the math is going to be very difficult for him. Your advice is appreciated.

Any accommodations made must be on his IEP and he must have been receiving them all school year. I would request for him to have individual testing, test read aloud (they cannot read the reading portion), extended time, someone to transcribe his answers or have him respond orally. These are a few but the school is bound by the allowable accommodations, check with the test coordinator. If her were mine, I wouldn't want him to take the test. He is tested every three years through a complete evaluation and then he has an annual review every year that involves testing. I believe that should be enough to measure what he is learning. Do you believe the CA test is appropriate for him? I know they are probably required to test him but I wish there was a way to keep children from taking test like this that are not appropriate for them. Good luck.
