If you wiped a prebuilt system like a dell, then you should install from the restore cds that came with your system. Otherwise update the sound board drivers.
And be sure to restart once or twice, since computers can be slow with some peripherals.

You need to adjust or install the drivers for the sound card. Also see if there is a little speaker icon in your toolbar. Click on it and uncheck what is turned off and adjust the volume sliders on the sounds you need. Some computers have sound cards built into the motherboard and you have to go into the bios to turn on the built in sound. It can be complex. If you have a sound card seperate from the motherboard you will need to install the drivers for sure.

Probably it isn't recognizing the sound card fully, which in turn would not allow it to recognize the speakers. Double check in device manager and make sure that your sound card is showing up as its correct make and manufacturer, model, etc.
You will need the driver for the sound card in order to install it-either look up the numbers on the sound card itself, or check if your machine came with drivers disk.

Most common issue people have after a format and reinstall.
Windows does not have the driver for your sound card included (Very few are). You will need to go to the website of the manufacturer of you PC, look up the model, and download the audio (sound card) drivers. Follow their instructions to install them. After that, Windows will see the card and you will have sound again.

You need to reinstall the sound card drivers.
Since they are NOT plug and play, you will have to find them. First go to your computer manufacture website, such as HP.
If you cant find them there, you will have to remove the cover, write down the make and model of sound card and do a search on google to find them.

Your best bet would probably be to go online and look for audio drivers for your computer. That should fix the problem.
