America is not just the name of a country, REMEMBER that America really is the name of a CONTINENT! so Mexicans, Brazilians, Puerto Rican, Cuban, etc also can be Americans!

And Mexico is NOT in central America, Mexico is in NORTH America.

Because we live in America, perhaps??
Central America starts form Guatemala and Belize, and ends in Panama.
South America starts in Colombia and ends in Chile
North America starts in Mexico an ends in Alaska

The same reason Canadians and Colombians are. I never refer to the United States as America because it's just arrogant.
