too old for spankings!?

Im 10.5 yrs old and my parents use spanking as punishment. I dont think its fair cuz I think I am gettin too old for it. Today I got into a fight with a teacher at skool she was bein mean to me so i swore at her and they cld my parents to come pick me up cuz I got suspended for a day. My dad said to go to my room and I knew a spankin was coming so I said no and tried to run out of the house, but he caught me. He spanked me with a belt, for the first time, only 4 whips over my jeans but it hurt and he said next time i swear at a teacher or diliberatly disobey that itll be worse. How can I convince my parents to ground me or somethin instead, I dont want to be spanked any more. I know they love me and all but its embarassing! I tried to talk to my best friend but he said hes spanked too so he cant help :(

10 years old is too old for spankings... I feel for you but I also wonder why you are swearing at a teacher? especially if you know your dad is going to humiliate you by spanking you....

I wouldn't be talking to your best friends about it .....kids can be mean. When was the last time you got spanked? If it was within the last week, talk with someone you trust.... adult family member, pastor, school counselor or teacher. If its been a while, then get back on the program and hopefully you wont have to deal with it again.

Hey Adam, Well I'm about 13 and never get in trouble so I don't really understand why your doing these things but every kid has different things they do when they are angry. So when I was younger I did get spanked a BUNCH!!!!! And my parents decided that it didn't hurt me anymore. I don't think that you should be disrespectful but you definitely need to have a talk with your parents and ask if they wouldn't mind just trading the spanks with the grounding. But if you don't act they won't know what you think will resolve it! Good Luck! And I will pray for you!

I'm sorry you got whipped, honey (spanking is with a hand, using a belt is whipping--and usually illegal). You're not really too old to be spanked, but I don't believe in spanking anyway. And I don't like that your dad is going to more severe measures than just spanking. I know he's getting frustrated with you, but obviously his approach isn't working, and just beating you harder isn't going to help.

The place to start here, kiddo, is with YOUR behavior. No matter what your teacher does, you don't have the right to swear at her.

Try behaving yourself just one day at a time, and keep it up until you're too old to be spanked. That's the best way.

I think the punishment is fitting. Especially since you don't like it. What your parent's really need to do is whip your a$$ and then take away phone and tv privleges. Shoot. You sound like you deserve it. You have no respect for your teachers. So what if she made you mad. Who cares? She's an adult and by being an adult you should show some respect. Be careful who you talk to about this because spanking is considered child abuse and you could get taken away from your parents for it. I would just sit down and talk to them about alternative ways of punishment. It doesn't hurt to try. You have to learn how to control your emotions and not get into fights with the teachers.
