Females do not have to so why should males shave or not shave?
When I was young every female shaved legs and arms. As I got older they began to get into the braless look and unshaved look so I tried it all out. Going without support does not work if someone is athletically inclined. Going without shaving under the arms if there is any substantial amount of hair increases sweating. As I had all ready decided to avoid deodorants and antiperspirants as they are not the best thing for sensitive people or health in many aspects as they are known to increase the chances of breast cancer I decided to go back to shaving.
I have no idea how very hairy men handle all the sweating that obviously comes along with it.

Most guys don't shave their armpit hair because it has become socially considered an un-masculine thing to do. Having armpit hair is a sign of maturity, growth, and development. It is often associated with the completion of puberty and becoming a "man." Male swimmers seem to be the only ones who can completely shave without fear of being called "gay" or "fag."

I keep mine clipped short. Someone suggested it once and I tried it, and it worked.
What do I mean by 'worked'. Way less odour. 24 hour deoderent is actually still covering up any smell 24 hours later.
Its quite likely that one of the reasons humans kept armpit hair was that it helped them smell more strongly. That was apparently useful 10000 years ago.
I don't shave it, because it itches regrowing. But I keep it at 1/2 inch or less. Try it, see how you find it.

Some do. It's not gay. I shave my armpits because I prefer roll-on deodorants to sprays.
Rockford, the deodorant sticks to your underarms, duh. Else, it wouldn't work for women, would it? Anyway, you don't sweat from your armpit hair, do you? You sweat from the armpits themselves. It's not sweat that makes the smell, anyway. It's bacteria living in your underarms. And if you have hair on your underarms there is more surface area for bacteria to live and breed on. And, you do not sweat any more or less if you have shaved/unshaved underarms. Deodorant does not stop you sweating. If you get hot you will sweat anyway. Deodorant just deals with the smell, etc., hence the name...

It's not a custom for them to. Some men do, but most don't. In countries/cultures where it isn't custom for women to shave their pits, they don't either.

It's a stupid convention in which some women are enslaved by public opinion.Anybody who criticizes a person's choice to leave the hair intact as nature intended, just needs to get a life.

Who says they don't?
It's more acceptable for guys not to shave, but doesn't mean they don't... I know a lot of (non-gay) guys that do.
