In my school, I am in an accelerated English and a normal Science. I have noticed the people in my classes.
In my acc. englsih class, there are absolutely no black people in there, and like two hispanics. Almost everyone is white or asian.
In my science class, almost half of the people are black or hispanic, with like 6 or so white people, and like 2 asians.
Does this seem right to you? do you think this is this racism in a way?

No. Because of their good grades they get into that class and unfortunately there aren't as much black or hispanic kids that accelrate that much. But I'm in a science class for people that aren't good at math and I'm surrounded by alot of white people. Sometimes its just the luck of the draw.

It sounds vaguely like "tokenism" or reverse racism, or that the school was trying to hard in their attempts to be "multicultural" or "politically correct"
Are they in the classes because they are good at those subjects? Then, you must also consider that the students themselves picked those courses, so perhaps they just simply gravitate to those subjects. It's something to think about. But don't obsess over it.

um no because there is no conflict, there is only cicumstance, noone is being separated or segregated, the classes just had a different amt of races in each class, for example, my eng 111 class last semester had about an even ratio of black and white and about 2 asains, this semester in my eng 112 class there is moslty black people, i think it depends on the demographics of the school and just the mere coincidence that those people have signed up for that class

To be placed in an accellerated English class, normally, you have to have a certain level of achievement. Perhaps none of the black or hispanic sudents in your school achieved this level of achievement. Is it racism, I don't think so, but I don't know the standards set in your school.

In my school we never had any blacks. I dont think its racist, just at that time (1985) we didnt have many blacks (or many other races) in the neighborhood. Since peole usually choose to be in accelerated english class (by their hard work over some years) it is just probable that most people just choose not to take acc. english except those who might go on to teach it??
Most probable is that they find acc english too boring to stand.

No, I dont think this is racism. You need to understand something. In your english class, you study grammar and language and who's better at speaking and writting english than a white person. Because no matter how well we speak it, hispanics always have the spanish background (a second language) and blacks also have their unique way of speaking. does this make sense?

No, not at all. Just because there may be a number of some people of one race in one class and then in another, doesn't mean anything. There still on the same grade level of education as you.

Don't feel bad. I'm the only black person in all 3 of my classes and there are only 3 in my 2nd block. But then again I did take all honors. I'm a freshman, but you can call me lonely black kid. also I don't call that racism.

I think it deserves attention. Why is there such a difference. Don't Chinese and Whites do science? Is it an economics problem or a social one. Racism can be a symptom as well as a cause.

How is that racism? I think it's just the way things turned out. In no way does that reflect racism.
