That's horrible. How would you like it if they did that to you? Just picture yourself in their shoes and see how they'd feel if they knew you were insulting them. It's just wrong and you should stop. You need help.

You are not alone! My husband does the same thing. You are right in wanting to change this! I hate listening to him degrade everyone and everything. It's not pleasant to be around someone who hates and despises everyone! Maybe after you make that critical judgment about someone you could try to also think of one good thing about them. Maybe they are dirty and stinky because of the hard work they do, or maybe that overweight person is in that condition not because they eat too much, but because of other reasons. Believe me, I've heard all of the insults, but I try to get my husband to look in other directions. Sometimes he will think about it more, sometimes not. It's a difficult thing to change the way your mind thinks, but I'm glad to see that you're wanting to!

Here is a phrase that I keep in mind when I get in those moods:
All criticism attacks the criticizer.
You are really passing judgement upon youself. Good Luck in working out this problem.

You are too good to do that. It belittles you every time you do that.
The next time you start to do that look for something good about the person. Think if the shoe was on the other foot and someone did that about you. Just smile and walk by without the insult. You
can do it!!

Learn a little empathy for your fellow creatures and a little humility for yourself.
Remember the golden rule your Mom never taught you: If you cannot say anything nice, zip it.
People who act like this usually have a self esteem problem. I am not being cruel, just stating fact.
Best you keep all that inside.

Just try to keep it to yourself. Maybe you'll save up enough material to be an insult comic someday.

if you try to bring everyone down, you must feel you are below them all. you need to deal with yourself if you honestly want to stop being critical of others.
