On the table are two job offers.

One is in San Francisco where the cost of living is high, there will be a substantial commute, and the pay will be good, but somewhat less than the other offer. The Bay is a new adventure, has temperate weather, nearby beaches, fresher air, etc.

The other is in Wilmington, DE where the cost of living is reasonable, the commute to work is fairly short, and the pay is somewhat more than the SF job. Wilmington is a smaller town, not a lot going on, full range of seasonal weather.

The work is similar in both locations. Long hours, semi-stressful professional job.

So...what would YOU choose, and why?

The long commute is a real bummer! You add a minimum of about 2 hours per day to your work day. That is providing that everything goes smooth. It is too chilly in San Francisco to enjoy the beaches 90% of the time. The climate is temperate but most evenings a sweater feels comfortable.

Wilmington is close enough to large cities that you can go and take advantage of what they have to offer without being there to suffer the disadvantages of living in a metropolitan area.

I guess my choice is clear. It would be Wilmington.
