2000 chevy cavalier (56K),I posted an overheating issue last Friday(thank you for your kind responses). In the next day, the engine temperature went all way up then I had to send it to a garage this week.
The machanic replaced the thermostat and cleaned the clogged radiator, just got my car back, it seemes Ok now. but I just found out that the guy flushed out the Dex-Cool and replaced it with the old-style green antifreeze. Is it Ok to use a different type of coolant?

Once the old stuff is flushed out completely, yes it's okay.
Just don't mix it.

Yes fine to use the green stuff just does not last the 5 years the dexcool is ment to. You'll have to flush the coolant every 1 or 2 now depending on your driving . The green coolant just does not last as long as the dexcool thats pretty much the only diff

yes, it is ok; except that now you have to change the coolant every 2 years instead of every 5 years. dont believe anything you might hear about the stuff turning to almost jell-o if you mix the 2 (red and green). it's just an over-used sales pitch.it's not true.

Yes, all coolants do the same thing, protect your car from overheating and freezing.

i own a shop, and it is as long as he flushed all the other out of it ,this wont hurt it one at all, most people don't completely flush them ,and that's was creating problems with some of it,but it should be ok now, good luck,i hope this help,s.

If it is completely flushed, it will be fine. Mixing the two will cause gelling, which causes overheating, so use one or the other, but never mix the two.

Truthfully, it shouldn't make a difference. It probably cost you a few dollars less too...

id say your motor will be just fine with the green anti freeze in it the dex cool is formulated for chevy motors ( dunno why ) but the green anti freeze is a good "universal" antifreeze so i wouldn't worry
