I know that female hormones and anti-androgens (Spironolactone) have feminizing effects on male-to-female transgenders, but I was wondering if they have feminizing effects on women. By feminizing effects, I mean facial fat redistribution (fuller cheeks, lips, etc.), clearer skin, fat redistributed to breasts and thighs, and a more delicate, feminine appearance overall. Maybe I'm wishing for too much, but I was just curious. Thanks :).

Therapeutic dosages don't really do much in the way of changing appearance.

Some women notice weight gain, but you won't normally gain weight in a manner that is outside of your normal gaining pattern (ie some of us have fat go to the hips first, some to the face, etc.)

For some women the hormones are "too much" and they have pregnancy like symptoms - breast swelling and tenderness, sensitivity to smells, nausea, etc. I guess that could be considered feminizing, but most women don't enjoy feeling pregnant when they are not.

There are some BCPs that claim to clear up the skin. Whether or not it would work for you depends on your body.

The dangers associated with hormonal birth control are too great to use it solely as a cosmetic drug. From blood clots to cancer - BCPs are not harmless and their use must be seriously scrutinized by potential users.

There are safer and more natural ways to sculpt the body, clear skin and appear feminine.

What's more - we, as women, need to learn to embrace diversity of "what looks good." It is senseless, in my opinion, to continue to put our bodies and spirits at risk through unnecessary drugs and surgical interventions all in the name of looking better.

Hi :-) I can answer some of your questions as a woman who has taken Yasmin for about 20 months now. It has not made me gain any weight at all (this pill does not make people gain weight, breasts or thighs or anywhere) and although I can see your point, it hasn't made me any more feminine. I have always been very feminine though. It has however, given me clearer skin (whihc started after about 9 months so give it time!) and it has also made my cramps better and my period lighter. This is the reason I was put on Yasmin, and for the period alone I would recommend it, but the skin is an added side effect that is pleasing. Everyone is different but I would discuss it with your doctor and give it a trial when your doctor thinks it is a good option for you. Good luck with it and I hope you get the results you are after, Take care :-)

Although it depends on the pill, birth control definitely causes a lot of women to gain weight around the breasts and thighs. I've been on it for six months now, and within the first two I went from a tiny little A cup to a full C, with hips to match.

As for other affects, such as fuller cheeks/lips/etc, clearer skin and what have you, it probably depends on the medication. Some birth control can actually cause you to break out, while others might get break outs under control. It just depends on how well your body and the pill get along.
