I've been perfectly fine with never wearing makeup. It's not something I've ever felt was required on anyone. Now, I've cut my hair really, really short (after having it really long and layered). I kinda feel like I need something to add a little fimininity back to my look. I don't want much. Generally, I wear jeans and a tee-shirt, or a cami and blouse. It's always very casual. I just don't know where to start. What's a nice brand? What can I do with a minimal amount of makeup and time? Would it be worth it to spend more time? How on earth do you apply it? I'm only familliar with heavy, dark stage-makeup. Any help would be appreciated.

ok im 16 and i started applying make up on for the first time ever just a couple of months ago,... i started out by buying what i needed and since my boyfriends sisters work at MAC.. i thought i would use MAC (i love MAC its my favorite brand after i tried other brands too) ... i know most people here are going to tell you to go to a counter and ask for a make over but i know sometimes we are short on money or just what to try your own thing... first off.. REMEMBER you have to CLEAN YOUR FACE EVERY NIGHT!! dont want your skin to get ruined!!! put a bit of foundation on your skin and evenly spread it out on your face... i would recommend you to get a plate with 4 eyeshadows or something so you know how to contrast two different colors OR use a darker and lighter shade of the same color... you put the lighter shade 1st... all through your eye.. from the lash up to the eyebrow... then you put the darker shade from your eyelid up to the crease (try using earth colors and not too dark so0 it looks natural) like a brown... get a slantes brush so you can blend the eyeshadow and it looks as if the dark color was fading into a lighter shade. get a powder blush... smile and put it on your cheek bones.. use very little of it or else you will look PINK!! then apply eyeliner (it coule be black or brown... brown for more natural) put it on your top lid very thinny against the lash like in this video http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-apply-pencil-eyeliner and same on the bottom... then curl your lashes with an eyelash curler.. hold it for about 10 seconds and apply a layer of mascara on.. then put a light/ shiney lipgloss on and you will look great.. good luck and if any questions, you are welcomed to IM me...

NO STAGE MAKE-UP... LESS IS MORE!!!!!!!!
simple make-up
If you have nice skin(acne free)skip step one.
1. Foundation that matches your skin(oil-free)
2. Blush that fits your skintone
3. Bronzer(once again that fits your skintone) (in places that would be tanned by the sun like your nose and forehead..maybe a little on your chin)
3. Light shimmery eye shadow(Not heavy)
4. Black mascara(top and bottom lashes)
(I use Maybilene full and soft. Dont use Great Lash, it clumps)
5. Lip gloss (NYC is a good brand)(not lipstick) (neutral colors like clear or light pink nothing Neon or dramatic, but maybe a shimmery bronze.)
I can't really give you a set brand that's best, because everyone is different, and something that looks horrible on me may look good on you, you just have to test and experiment different kinds to see what is best for you.
one more thing...make sure you wash your face at night so you don't break out with acne...trust me.*tear*
Hope this can help;)

You probably do not need foundation. Get a really good consealer that matches your skin well. Mascara can really brighten you up- use an eyelash curler for more dressy occations. A little tinted lipgloss in pink. Don't forget a creamy blush if you have dry skin- powder if you have oily skin. Maybelline is good and cheap. If you want to invest in something more quality try Mac.

a lot depends on your skintype. if you've got fairly easy to maintain skin, then going to target and buying a brand you hear about a lot on t.v. (maybelline, cover girl, neutrogena, revlon, etc) is a quick easy idea. for sensitive skin, or if you breakout easily talk to a dermatologist.
the easiest, simple makeup i do is to apply liquid foundation, finish with light powder (keeps my face from looking oily), then i use brown or black eyeliner (if you're fair skinned - brown...i'm indian, so i usually use black cause i can get away with darker colors) and matching eyeshadow (or some other neutural color...mb light pink) just up to the crease of my eyelid. a little lipgloss, sometimes mascara, and i'm good to go. play with color when you have time to blend and get shades right. this makeup will make you look polished and natural.
if all else fails, go to a beauty counter in a department store and ask for help. the makeup will be pricier, but if you can get a good idea of what you need, just buy a good foundation there and get the rest at target.

Well, if you just want to start off with just a little then here are some tips. Definitely wear lip gloss. whatever color looks good on you. and mascara. My favorite brands are MAC and Estee Lauder. You can go to a MAC or sephora or really anywhere. But that is definitely a good way to start off for now.

minimal makeup that will look good and take about 2 seconds, use blush and mascara. for the blush, dont get too bright of a color, just a soft one and apply it to your cheek bones. as for mascara, get something that looks fairly simple to you in black or brown. just apply one coat to your top lashes, maybe a little to your bottom ones if you want (but dont go overboard). clinique mascara is really good. you can buy both the mascara and blush at any drugstore. i also personally like to always have chapstick on, it may sound silly but then my lips dont look all white and dried out. it makes a huge difference.

and im 16 too so dont worry about it.

At your age, you probably do not need a foundation. If you have never worn makeup before, it is easy to put on too much the wrong way. Start by putting on a light eyeshadow or a lip gloss. A 16 year old does not need much to look good. You want to maybe try one thing at a time until you are good at it. (Maybe try different eye shadows and ways to apply it.)

mascara makes you look girly (long lashes..duh :]) especially with short or tied up hair, mascara is a must! My faves are DiorShow and Chanel Inimitable or cheaper, Maybelline Great Lash. IT may take a little practice but definitely worth it.
Or natural looking false lashes can really open up your eyes and add a feminine touch.
Also, for your skin, add a natural luminating powder/shimmer or foundation so your skin doesn't look rough, it will make you look ethereal (alternative: light pink rosy cheeks)
for lips, try to stay neutral with a sheer light beige like NARS in Striptease, or Orgasm (a peachy pink). they are the best lipglosses i have ever tried and trust me, i am addicted to glosses!

this is a very natural look (and takes about 5 minutes to do) so if you want it a tiny bit more dramatic for evenings, use Chanel eyeliner to line the inside bottom rims of eyes and add a little bit of eyeshadow. (alternative: play up lips instead, Dior LIpstick in REd Premier for reds, and Chanel lipsticks for beiges and NARS for pink)

Chanel, Dior and NARS are my favorite brands, expensive but definitely worth every penny. Instead of me telling you how to apply since it's really hard to, go to a sephora or a makeup counter and ask them to do it on you and show you at the same time, should be free too! remember to try on different brands cuz my skin, eyes and lips are different from yours! have fun and good luck! :)

Lip gloss, blush and mascara are all you need to start with. You can use a bronzer as blush for a natural look. Lip gloss should be a pinkish nude and black mascara makes your lashes stand out. I also think that dramatic earrings whether they are hoops or chandelier style look amazing with shorter hair...it will give your look a little pizazz.

I think you should start off slowly, instead of having a whole makeover done all at once. Anyways. I think you should start off with lipgloss and eyeliner. Check out Sephora and MAC and the sales associates will help you out and teach you how to apply some makeup. =]
