Success should not be measured by how much you have. I dont make that much compared to some jobs that dont require college. I have a 2 yr degree and make less than poverty wages for a family of four and can squeeze out a house payment. I think im pretty well off compared to most people in the world and im thankfull for it. Sure if I had more money it would be nice but as long as i have my health, family and roof over my head im good. Having a steady job has made that possible. If finding a job is hard where you are then make your way to Northeast U.S. Classifieds are usually full.
Ive been where you descibe, just gotta keep at it. Save up whatever you can. Get that car so you can get a better job that might be a little longer ride but more money. Keep trying, maybe do jobs that would not consider before. Pull in that paycheck and strive for more. Best of Luck

Any person at any age, can overcome most any case of "under achieving". Is my personal belief. It is never too late to overcome a less than desirable status. First you have to want to...You have to really be willing to make some extreme sacrifices. Leave yourself no excuses. There are too many options available to those that are willing to go the extra mile. There are grants for education, training is available for displaced employees. This is a big problem, plants closing, cut-backs. That means the competiton for good paying jobs is fierce. With that being the case, you must sell yourself as the better product. Nothing is available to fit your skills, trade or profession... Move to where your chances are increased. Easier said than done, I'm sure, but if you really want more you have to get out there and make it happen.
If it means continuing with your current job less, than desirable job...So be it. Stay there until you have saved enough cash to get that fresh start. For example I live in Ohio, In the early 80"s I couldn't find a job that paid well. There was a big oil boom in Texas. I went there...I got a good paying job with benefits. It was mine. One thing was stopping me, I dropped out of school 2years prior. I had the drive I needed to get a GED. I did it within 3 weeks and started my new job.
It was hard I didnt know anyone. It was far enough south that most people were Mexican, posing a language barrier. I didnt even have enough money for a full months rent. The point of this, is it is never too late.
I am closing in on 46 years and again I find myself looking to begin yet another career. How markrtable am I? It is up to me how well I choose to do....what I am willing to sacrifice...But thats just me.
Have a good day!;Kevin

You must live in detroit.(lol) No your life is just begining the reason why i say that is cuz you are inquiring about it. I am involved with something that takes little money but alot of time. I meet people from all ends of the spectrum. They are either engineers or almost homeless. You are 40 but you have a good 40 to go so if you think it might be over think again remember we live in the land of opertunity that is why we have to push #1 for english (because everyone else knows it)
