I have NEVER heard of that. But i have had two catheders and they are not fun. One i was on demerol and it still hurt, the other i wasn't on anything. Besides the pain it has got to be one of the weirdest feeling ever.

No, they do not do that.
A catheter is a little tube that is inserted into some part of your body. When most people use the term, they mean a urinary catheter, which is inserted into the urethra to drain urine from the bladder.
An intravenous catheter is often inserted into a labor patient's arm, so that an IV can be started quickly in an emergency, without having to find another vein.
But there is absolutely no way that any type of catheter is routinely inserted ANYWHERE to look at a baby.
(This is done through ultrasound, most commonly at 18-22 weeks.)

It might depend on the hospital. But, I have had three children and never heard of this! Ask your doctor to relieve the stress and wondering. I have had a catheder and it's not fun, I can tell you that!

I have had 2 kids and never had a catheter until I was in the hospital to actually have the baby. And besides a catheter is inserted into the bladder to release the urine, it has nothing to do with the baby, and to see the progress of the baby.
Are you sure your not thinking of another procedure of some kind?

You should not have to have any catheter put in you. They can see how the baby is doing just fine through an ultrasound. Maybe if you were having some sort of complications due to urinary tract infections. Otherwise, no catheter.

If we are talking about the same thing, i believe a catheter is something they put in your bladder to make sure you dont pee on yourself while your in labor if you arent allowed to get up. Not just during pregnancy. It does hurt a little sometimes.

I have no idea what you are talking about or where you heard such nonsense. Do you even know what a catheter is?
