general info about long haired teddy bear hamsters?

i just got a teddy bear hamster, and i know the basics like feed, give em water, change the bedding, and give em a house, but, what else? is there any special care that they need? if so please tell me anything u know about hamsters! or give me a link for a page about them or something. i know the petco care sheets but, they dont give much info. thanx!

Hamsters don't require much ... that goes for any breed.
You have food/dish, you have water bottle, house, shavings, litter/potty if you wish, the occasional treat (be it store bought or a little piece of fruit/veggie - NO CITRUS), some stuff for their house (paper towel shredded), a wheel for exercise, throw in a toilet paper tube/paper towel tube, or chew sticks and you essentially have all you need.
If you want to get toys for your hamster, by all means, go for it...Hamsters love having things to do... They're curious by nature. Put a clay flower pot or glass mason jar in there and they'll play in that or even sleep, or on the off chance, they'll use it as a potty.
Giving your hamster personal attention is a good thing though (holding it, talking to it, etc). If you want, get a ball and let it run freely but not near stairs.

I had a teddy bear hamster that lived for almost three years.The only other thing that was really important was excercise He had a ball and lots of tubes to crawl thru.I didn't buy all the fancy hamster treats (as a friend of mine did and her hamster died in 6 months) I only gave him some chew sticks and his food,He did enjoy Turkey on thanksgiving though!!Hamsters are easy just feed clean & let run around alot!!GOOD LUCK!!!
