I was told by my supervisor to document everything since we have been having difficulties with a new boss. I have a hard time remembering exact conversations.

I do like my job, my entire department is having a fit about our new boss. My supervisor didn't suggest I record him, just write down whatever little minor incidents occur. We all just want to cover our butts, since he's going around badmouthing us.

yes it is legal for you to record converstations with your boss. It might be illegal though for you to record conversations between your boss and someone else, if you are not in the room with them and involved in the conversation

It depends upon which state in which you live. Some states require a warrant. I live in Oklahoma where you may record any conversation in which you are a party, or at least one of the parties is aware of the recording. Call the local district attorney's office (don't record this conversation, just in case).

your supervisor is trying to place you in a situation where you are the escape goat...meaning if something goes wrong...he/she is using you as a shield..so he/she doesnt get in trouble..
dont fall for it.

Depends on your state- some states you only need single-party consent.

you can't record them without their knowledge (its illegal in most states, check on your state though).
but if you let them know you are taping them and its ok, there is no problem. get it on tape that they agree to it though, so they can't turn around later and sue you.
