I've 10 ear piercings, 4 of which are in the outer cartilage, and 1 in the "shell" of my ear. That bump is very very common. It is actually known as "the bump". It goes away with proper care. I use anti-bacterial soap everyday with mine, which is the proper way of caring for "the bump". Whatever you do, do not put alcohol or peroxide on your bump!! This will make it worse and close your hole. Also, when you get the bump, don't take your earring out unless you absolutely need to. Otherwise, your hole will close. What you should do is get a hooped earring like you get at HotTopic, and put that in your ear, because hoops give swelling room so your bump will heal without having to take your earring out! I have a lot of experience with piercings, and all mine are just dandy. So good luck and use anti-bacterial soap (Dial works best-3 times a day)

The bump is called a keloid and it is very common in piercings - especially cartilage piercings. It happens when the body is trying to heal that area and continues to grow scar tissue as long as it is irritated.
The Dr. gave me triamcinolon acetonide (antibiotic cream like neosporin) and it took that redness and weepiness away, but the bump kept growing. If you let it go too long, which I did, it can give you swollen lymph nodes because your body is trying too hard to heal the hole. After about a year I let the hole close on the advice of my Dr.
Try the antibiotic cream and see if that helps.

Scaring or boil, I'd say. Could be keloid or hypertrophic*spelled wrong...* scaring, which can be helped with vitamin E oil massages. A boil is a kind of infection, possibly cause by a bump *you bump it, opens it up a little and makes way for bacteria* which I treated with chammomile tea compresses *make tea, then put the tea-bag on the bad area for 10 or so* and/or tea-tree oil. Go see your piercer and ask, assuming that you didn't get them gunned at the mall. If that's the case, seek out a good piercer and allow him/her to hit you upside the head for letting them gun your cartilage.

I've also have a bump...it would stay the same way. Guess you could ask a doc to remove the bump away. It's a minor operation.
